If the first one was all about Manoj Bajpai, this one belongs to Nawazuddin Siddiqui completely. Nawazuddin manages to imbibe various aspects of Faisal's character and essays the role with impeccable ease. Your heart goes out to the conflicted protagonist. The druggie Faisal who is so busy puffing away at his joint that he is almost indifferent to his father and elder brother's murder, the reluctant gangster who is thrust into the limelight by default, the lover who is as smitten despite the tough exterior.
While Siddiqui never really leaves the spotlight, every other member of the cast no matter how short the role makes their presence felt. It's commendable how Kashyap manages to make every character memorable, especially, Faisal's younger brother, Perpendicular. Richa Chadha belts out another commendable performance as Sardar Khan's feisty widow, who is unforgiving of her enemies.
Superficially 'Gangs of Wasseypur II' is just another well-made gang war story, the revenge saga between Sardar Khan and Ramadhir Singh comes to its logical end with Faizal Khan taking over the reins of Wasseypur. However, Wasseypur stands out not just for the commendable performances, the apt background score and the wry humour that it's peppered with but for the subtle Biharisms that is spot on, like how Faizal is called 'Faijal' by everyone in the family.
