Synopsis :
Drishyam is no ordinary thriller. It uses several elements of the genre (thriller) to create a well crafted riveting story. Ajay Devgn plays Vijay a cable operator who’s a loving father to two daughters and a doting husband. Always on the righteous track he believes in supporting what is morally correct. Things take a turn for the worse when Vijay’s daughter is caught in a MMS scandal. The young boy who tapes her is killed by Vijay’s daughter in a freak mishap. The first half spends a lot of time building up the ambience and creating the bond between Vijay and his family. The narrative is simple and there isn’t much drama until we reach the middle half just before the interval. The best part of the first half comes pre interval with Tabu’s (Meera Deshmukh) stellar entry as a coo covered in shades of grey. The second half is where the story will pick up and the jigsaw puzzle falls into place. Ajay’s performance is nuanced with subtleties and the kids play their parts with utmost sincerity. Those who have seen the Malayalam version might know where the climax leads, but for me director Nishikant Kamat has me on the edge of my seat.
